Potty Days

So here is Josh and his teddy modeling the latest addition to his wardrobe...BIG BOY UNDERWEAR! I have to say I truly never thought this day would come. After Christmas I decided enough was enough and it was time to potty train this kid. He would say, "Mommy, is it time to ride the potty train?" I think he was a little disapointed when the potty train turned out to be the toilet.
So I camped out with him in the bathroom for a day, pumping him full of fluids so that he'd have to go. I have to say, this was a pretty frustrating day! He just wasn't getting it and he was having accidents. I was thinking maybe he wasn't ready, but then by the end of the day he was telling me when he had to go!
So he had the pee thing pretty much down by day 2, but the much larger battle was ahead of me....that's right, poop!
If I thought day one was frustrating then I had no idea. Josh pretty much had been holding his poop in for a day because he was scared to do it. I was doing all I could as far as bribing him, but then he starting screaming at me, "No, I don't want treats! I don't want treats!" So then I pulled out the big guns. I found a toy horse catalog that came with one of the horses he got for Christmas and told him to come sit on the potty, poop and pick out the horse he wanted for his prize. This got him pretty excited, but shockingly, not enough to go through with it. Finally, it got so bad, and so comical actually, that he was running around in circles holding his bottom, jumping up and down and hopping from one foot to the other because he had to go so badly. He screamed, "Mom, if I poop I won't have a body!" Well no wonder he was scared! This literally seemed like a life or death decision for him! Anyway, in the end he sat on the potty and picked out the horse he wanted (which just arrived today, Bayberry is his name!), and finally went #2!
I wish I could say that was the end of the drama, but everytime it was time to poop we were faced with a lot of screaming and a lot of running around and hopping on one foot. But one week later, I am happy to say that it looks like Josh is pretty much potty trained! HOORAY!!! Oh and let me tell you I have been peed on more times then anyone should and in an unfortunate turn of events, I knelt in poop! Other than that, it wasn't too bad. So I am officially done with diapers! (For now I guess...that's kind of depressing!)
ps- This Hellogoodbye song is in tribute to Joshy, he loves to get crazy and dance to this one. Great job buddy!!

Yea Joshy!!! I am so amazingly proud of you for posting again-I thought you disappeared. I miss you-it has been since the Christmas party since I saw you. I am glad that everything is getting worked out with his potty training-I was laughing out loud as I read your post. Joshy is hilarious-I loved that he thought his body would disappear. You will have to give me some pointers on potty training when Ryan get ready for it. We have such a struggle with getting diapers on him now he pees and poops on the carpet way too often. I am sorry that you got peed on. I can' t wait to see you some time soon-anne

Congratulations! I've been working with Zack on using the toilet over the past two days. It has been complicated, because just as he was making progress he came down with the flu! Curses! Foiled again...

That 'potty train' would be a disappointment to a child. Smart thinking with the horsey bribes. I'll check out my ipod for some pump up the jams workout tunes. P.S. you don't need to slim down
